As of March of 2023, Google Images has a photo erroneously claiming to be of Dr. Patrick O’Reilly, suspect in the murder of Elizabeth Short:

While other photos under the search are likewise not of Dr. Patrick O’Reilly the caption of “D.P. O’Reilly” and the connection to “Black Dahlia” leads one to the assumption.

The following is an actual photo of Dr. O’Reilly, suspect in the murder of Elizabeth Short:

Everyone has a right to be known for who they are, and not to be lost to the web of confusion called the internet. I do not blame the person who posted the image on Pinterest, as they refer to a Google search which led to the erroneous connection.

So who is “D.P. O’Reilly”?

He is Dennis Patrick O’Reilly (August 13, 1921 – May 24, 1941) who served on the HMS Hood in the Royal Navy for the United Kingdom during World War II. He died at the age of 19 in service to his country and deserves to be remembered for his sacrifice.
